It’s spring break, and all the “ghoul” kids are heading to an island adventure for some roaring good times! Frankie Stein™ is decked out in a “spooktacular” swimsuit with cover-up and has a cool treat to help “spring” into break! Doll cannot stand alone. Ages 6 and older.

“Doll cannot stand”
no shit, she is a fucking poster child for anorexia. Her head is bigger around than her hips and shoulders combined. This is fucking disgusting.

SCREAM I HATE YOU

Shaming thin bodies is still body-shaming and can be especially triggering to people who have or are currently dealing with disordered eating. Also, shaming people for their disordered eating is ableist and just cruel.

“You look anorexic and that’s disgusting” doesn’t help fuckin’ anybody.

okay seriously what the even fuck

I am deathly thin. I have been told for most of my life that I “look like I just got out of a concentration camp” or even that I resembled a “starving kid in Africa.” I was told by my doctor that I was at risk for malnourishment, because due to depression I spent an entire month in bed & didn’t bother to go out and get food on a regular basis. I know what it’s like to be fucking thin-shamed and I know what disorganised eating is like.

And you are putting words into my mouth. You quote me as saying “You look anorexic and that’s disgusting” when what I really said was “no shit, she is a fucking poster child for anorexia. Her head is bigger around than her hips and shoulders combined. This is fucking disgusting.”

“This” in my last sentence referring not to a person’s body, not to the doll’s body, and not to thin bodies in general, but to the impossibly thin standard of beauty created by the fashion industry, by the medical industry, and by toys like these ones that lead people to the point of having an eating disorder.

Having a disorder that causes you to be malnourished- or appear malnourished- doesn’t give you a free pass to body shame, ED shame, or be ableist. That’s like saying being a woman means you can’t possibly say misogynistic things, and queer folk can never ever be bigoted toward other queer folk. Pointing out that you’re super thin for whatever reason isn’t helping your cause, it just makes you look like more of a butt. Because if you know what it’s like to be shamed for being thin, you should not be doing it.

Furthermore, you’re not giving the people these dolls are marketed to enough credit and because I’ve already typed it out on several different occasions I’m just going to link to my past post:

[Trigger for eating disorders on all of them]

TL;DR version is that these are stylized fashion dolls and everything from the dolls to cartoons are to be taken as fictional, fake, pretend. My nine-year-old sister isn’t going to try and mimic the noodle thin limbs of Marcelline the Vampire Queen either because she knows it’s a cartoon. I think we should be more cautious about dolls that present themselves as truer to life- Barbie, Bratz, LIV dolls etc.- appose to those with blue, pink, and green skin, bolts through their necks and wolf ears.

While the MH Franchise isn’t perfect and being pelted with thinness in every venue (fiction and reality) is never a good thing, at least the MH franchise is promoting people to embrace their “freaky flaws” and to “Be yourself. Be Unique. Be a Monster!”. I wish I had someone telling me that while I was growing up.

P.S. The Webisodes just featured a FREAKIN’ FABU pulsed sized lady character who is Operetta’s idol.
